During our prayer shift at the Munich House of Prayer for “Identity, Art, and Creativity,” we recently focused on the following Bible passage: "But David strengthened himself in the Lord, his God." 1 Samuel 30: 6
The background to this passage is very moving. David returns from the war with his men. They are tired and just want to rest and recharge. To their horror, they find their village looted and devastated. Their wives, children, and belongings are gone.
To make matters worse, they’re now turning against David and want to stone him. Most of us would panic. But David had the ability to find strength in God within minutes and even come up with a plan for how they could get their belongings back.
That's what I tried to convey with my drawing.
On request, the picture is of course also available as an art print, poster, canvas or as a custom-made product such as a pillow or blanket.
I finally drew a cartoon again. Many of you are probably familiar with the TV series about the life of Jesus and his followers, The Chosen. Especially in the U.S., there are quite a few fans who regularly post memes related to the series on their own Facebook page. One of the best-known and best of them is Alan Schneider. He’s been trying in vain for a long time to get Jonathan Roumie, the actor who plays Jesus, to follow him on Instagram. This topic alone is the subject of many memes.
The animated series The Chosen Adventures has been around for a while now, but unfortunately it’s not yet available in German here in Germany. Fortunately, a few episodes have been posted on ►YouTube so far. The Jesus in my cartoon is inspired by Jonathan Roumie’s cartoon version.
Years ago I had a prophetic impression at the Freaksleitertraining (FLT) in Nuremberg. The picture touched me very much, I drew it again and again and gave it to people who were also very touched by it.
There is a place in our heart that is so deep inside that we can't even get there ourselves, that we don't even want to look at it. We're scared of it because we think it's gross, dirty, and ugly. We are ashamed of it and wonder if God even knows this place.
In diesem Eindruck sah ich diesen Ort in Form einer dunklen Höhle, wo es nur einen ganz kleinen Spalt an die Oberfläche und zum Sonnenlicht gab. Hier drang niemals Licht herein. Nur einmal im Jahr, wenn die Sonne eine ganz bestimmte Position am Himmel hatte, konnte ein Lichtstrahl bis zum Boden herunter dringen. So wie in diesen Kathedralen, wo es ein winziges Loch in der Mauer gibt. Wenn die Sonne richtig steht, wie zur Sonnenwende, würde das Licht da hindurchscheinen auf einen bestimmten markierten Platz am Boden.
Und so drang der Lichtstrahl Gottes an den tiefsten Ort meines Herzens, das normalerweise in tiefster Dunkelheit ist. Doch wider Erwarten war es da nicht eklig, stinkig oder schmutzig. Nein, hier wuchs eine wunderschöne Rose!
God knows the deepest part of your heart where it hurts. And there is beauty! So don't be afraid of this place!
Es gibt noch eine besondere Geschichte zu diesem Bild und der Postkarte dazu. Ich hatte ja erzählt, wie ich dieses Bild immer wieder gezeichnet und Leuten gegeben habe. Ein Grund, warum ich davon eine Postkarte haben drucken lassen, dass ich es nicht immer wieder neu drucken müsste und einfach die Karte weiter geben konnte.
So war ich vor Jahren Teil des Gebetsteams auf dem Freakstock, dem Jesusfestival der Jesus Freaks. In der Ministryzeit sah ich einen Freund auf allen Vieren im Staub vor der Bühne. So kniete ich mich neben ihn und betete für ihn. Am Ende gab ich ihm dann genau diese Postkarte. Ich sah, wie ihn die Postkarte zutiefst ansprach. Er hörte gar nicht zu, wie ich ihm den Eindruck dazu erklären wollte. Offensichtlich sprach sie ihn auf einer ganz anderen Ebene an!
Jahre später, als ich einen Blogeintrag gepostet hatte, in dem ich schrieb, dass ich die Jesus Freaks verlassen würde, hat er mich angeschrieben. Er erzählte, dass er unter Depressionen leide und das nicht behandeln lassen hat. Er überlegte, sich das Leben zu nehmen! Als er die Postkarte sah, bekam er wieder Hoffnung und hat diese Idee wieder verworfen. Ich bin noch heute mit ihm in Kontakt!
Durch diese Postkarte hat Jesus ihm das Leben gerettet!
Ich habe in letzter Zeit einige Bücher veröffentlicht. Vor etlichen Jahren durfte ich bereits einen Roman mit 12 meiner Zeichnungen illustrieren. Das hat mich damals ziemlich herausgefordert. So bin ich sehr froh, dass ich diese Zeichnungen fertigstellen durfte. Besonders bewegend, dass ich die „Kreuzigungsszene“ an einem Karfreitag begonnen habe.
Mein Freund Joe Wittrock hat dieses Buch auf deutsch übersetzt und mich angefragt, ob ich es illustrieren will. Es war immer unklar, ob der Verlag meine Zeichnungen mit in das Buch hineinnehmen würde. Da es den Roman inzwischen auch als kostenlosen Download auf der Verlagsseite gibt, möchte ich euch dieses Buch der Vollständigkeit halber hier auch bei mir anbieten?

Ich hatte die wunderbare Gelegenheit Ende September 2023 mit einigen Teilnehmern der Kreativgruppe „Creatio – Kunst, die lebt“ (damals noch CreateArt+) in die Toskana zu reisen. Wir sind eine Gruppe christlicher Kreativer und Künstler, die über den gesamten deutschsprachigen Raum verteilt sind. In den monatlichen Zoomtreffen tauschen wir uns aus, ermutigen uns und beten füreinander.
This trip was the first opportunity for most of the 10 participants to get to know each other personally. I enjoyed that there was enough time to get to know a little bit about other people's stories, their art and personality.
We were accommodated in several small apartments in a simple but beautiful holiday home complex. There was a large terrace, a spacious green area and a small swimming pool surrounded by a beautiful landscape with vineyards, poplars and olive trees.
For some time I have been part of a creative group CreateART+ in the German-speaking area that wants to network and encourage Christian artists. We meet monthly via Zoom to share testimonies and report on how we are doing.
Internally we hold workshops from time to time. So this week there was a workshop that was supposed to help us create creative art spontaneously. This workshop was very cool because it gave me new ideas. I suddenly felt like painting over the artist's watercolor pencils I used for the exercise. The result was a very cool effect that I would now like to use more often. Here my results:
My new art newsletter has been out for a while now. I'm currently trying out a lot of new things with my art. I was allowed to make a digital portrait for a work colleague, I tried something new with my fineliners and continued to fine-tune my three-dimensional pictures.

I tried something new again. I made some line drawings with fineliners on dark drawing board. Then I added highlights with a white artist watercolor pencil and finally highlighted with a golden Edding Paint marker. I'm quite happy with the results! The scans don't really reflect the effects. Therefore, please take a look at the short videos, where this is more recognizable.
