Waiting for the breakthrough…

Durchbruch (Entstehung)

We recently had a special time at the Munich House of Prayer. A woman from China taught us about prayer. I started this drawing during the worship time. I had forgotten to bring my own drawing paper, so I used the paper that was in the creative corner.

I’ve explored this theme in my artwork many times before. It’s kind of relevant to my life, after all. We have this special theme for the year: that God wants to do something new. Sometimes God has already been at work for a long time, and we don’t even realize it because we don’t recognize it.

Durchbruch

Over the next few days, I continued working on the painting. But somehow it still didn’t feel quite right. At first, I had only intended to add reflections of the light behind the opening along the edge of the rock. That just didn’t seem to fit. So I began to blend the colors deep into the rock. And suddenly, it all came together.

On top of that, it reminded me of one of my favorite picture books from my childhood: *Frederick*. While the rest of the mouse family gathers seeds, grains, and straw for the winter, Frederick just sits there. When they ask him what he’s doing, he simply says, “I’m gathering colors and words for the winter.” Fortunately, they let him. And when their supplies are slowly running out in winter, he recites a wonderful poem for them. In the accompanying illustration, the stones are illuminated with broad streaks of color...

Maybe that even suggests that breakthroughs come about through the arts and creativity. What do you think?
